Beware of the Soul Suckers
by Anne Faith Nicholls
Acrylic and charcoal on canvas, 4” x 36”
This is a painting for the “every girl” swimming through life, avoiding “suckers” she encounters along her way. Craggy rocks offer safe refuge from rough seas and creepy creatures. Ominous tentacles reaching for the girl represent suckers of all sorts, including, but not limited to time suckers, energy suckers and soul suckers. Wearing an octopus “crown” we see our swimmer, perhaps victorious or at least harmonious, finally, with said suckers. Beware of the Soul Suckers was recently featured at Joseph Gross Gallery, New York, for the ArtLeadHers exhibition curated by Mashonda Tofferie in partnership with Martin Lawrence Galleries.
